A Christmas thought

1 CORINTHIANS 13 - - A CHRISTMAS VERSION
Author unknown

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling
lights and shiny balls, but do not show love, I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table
at mealtime, but do not show love, I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all
that I have to charity, but do not show love, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes,
attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata but
do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas
china and table linens.
Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way, but is thankful they
are there to be in the way.
Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return but
rejoices in giving to those who can't.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures
all things. Love never fails.

Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust,
but giving the gift of love will endure.

Something we all should try to remember this Christmas (and thanks to Aunt Marj for sending this on to me in the first place!).

Uh-oh

Ahhhh...a quiet Monday morning. Gavin's at school, Mischa's sleeping, and the house is peaceful and quiet, a warm sanctuary in the midst of a chilly day.

Uh-oh. Where's Abby? I almost forgot about her...quiet isn't good, quiet is BAD!

First school picture!`

Not bad, considering Bad Mommy forgot it was picture day! (In my defense, I remembered the first time it was supposed to be picture day, but the camera broke that day and it was rescheduled...which I forgot.) He's doing his usual little biting his lip thing, but really, that's what he does, so it sure looks like him! :) And is it just me, or is he looking way older than four?!?

A proud mommy post :)

Gavin's been doing amazingly well with his reading the last few weeks - his teacher has been sending home reading books each day with him for the last month or so, and he is SO into it!

Here's a link to a video I took today of him reading one of the books we ordered from the Scholastic book club flyer (does everyone remember Scholastic book club?? I loved the day the book orders came in!). This was the first time he had ever looked at this book, and he did a great job. :)

Pictures from the house that never blogs...

Ha! Sorry we've been so busy we just haven't had time to post lately. You'll have to be content with a few pictures until we have time to think of something interesting to say and have the time to sit and write it! :)
