I forgot the best part!

Check out the 'Five Year-Old Outsmarts Parents' below - Greg just called me to remind me that I had forgotten the funniest part at the end! :)

Regressing???

We were out this morning visiting a friend and Rachel wanted to be fed as soon as we got home. I had set her carseat on one of the chairs in our living room and sat down to feed her. A minute later I heard "Look, Mommy! I in my chair!"

Five year-old outsmarts parents

Scene: Just a regular house in a small town. Could be yours. Or mine. (But it's not...really.)

Five year-old: Let's play Simon Says! Do you know how to play that game?

Mom & Dad: Yes, we know how to play.

Five year-old: OK, first you need someone that stands here and says...

Mom & Dad: Gavin! (oops, I mean 'Fictional Boy made up for the purposes of this story'!) We really know how to play already!

Five year-old: Simon says jump up and down.

(Mom & Dad start jumping)

Five year-old: Stop!

(Mom & Dad stop)

Five year-old: (giggling) I didn't say Simon Says - you're out! I knew you didn't know how to play!

Doh! ;)

Another hair first

Abby's first french braids:

I need some more practice, but not bad for a first try! :) (And yes, I had to sit her in front of a Dora the Explorer movie to get her to sit still for long enough!)

First day of kindergarten

Gavin started his first day of kindergarten today! Out here kindergarten is full days two (and sometimes three) days a week - it's not worth bussing the country kids in for just a half a day at a time. Gavin will be going Tuesdays and Thursdays and more or less every second Friday.

Gavin's going to the local Catholic school, which is also where he went to half-day Junior Kindergarten last year. The Jr K and Kindergarten share the same classroom with the same two teachers, so everything was pretty familiar to Gavin this morning - just a new spot on the bootrack for his shoes, and a different cubby in the classroom. :)

The Tuesday/Thursday kindergarten class this year is ALL boys! There were only about six girls in total registered for kindergarten, and rather than split them up three and three (which usually ends up with two kids pairing up and the one being left out) the teachers decided to try putting all the girls in one group and leaving the Tuesday/Thursday as all boys. We'll see if they regret that decision!! ;) I think there's about 15 kids in his class - that's a lot of five year-old boys!

I asked Gavin what his favorite part of the day was, and his answer was "my favorite part was getting to stay for the afternoon too!"

Day at the lake

We just got back from a day at One Island Lake, BC with some friends who are camping out there. The day started off with three strikes against us - we looked at our gas gauge when we were just a few minutes from the lake and realized we had almost no gas left (and it's out pretty far away from any civilization), we parked at the campsite only to see we had a flat tire, and when we realized how cold and windy it was right by the lake we discovered that no one had packed the kids' sweaters!

Despite that less-than-perfect beginning, we had a great day together. The kids went for a couple of boat rides, Greg did some waterskiing, Farrell stayed far away from anything involving ice-cold lake water on an already cold day, and we all ate way too much!
